Referee Charged After Allegedly Choking Youth Football Coach During NJ Game

What began as a heated disagreement over a call on the field soon spiraled into a truly alarming physical confrontation that shocked everyone present.

Authorities say that Lamar Holmes, 34, of Clayton, who was officiating the game, got into a verbal spat with Andrew Venuto, 44, of Deptford, a coach for one of the teams. Now, arguments happen in sports, right? Coaches disagree with refs, refs make tough calls. It's part of the game's fabric, but it should never, ever cross a line into violence. And sadly, this one allegedly did.

According to reports, the situation escalated dramatically. Holmes allegedly put Coach Venuto in a headlock, actually restricting his breathing.
