Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has unleashed a scathing critique against the Narendra Modi government, lambasting its decision to import oil from Russia despite international pressure, while Indian citizens grapple with an unrelenting surge in fuel prices. Addressing the pressing issue of rising petrol and diesel costs that burden millions of households, Gandhi questioned the government's priorities.

He highlighted a stark contrast between the current stance and past actions, particularly referencing the much-publicized 'Howdy, Modi!' event in Houston, where Prime Minister Modi shared a stage with then-US President Donald Trump, signaling a strong alignment with American foreign policy.

"The Prime Minister went to Houston and declared 'Howdy, Modi!' a strong relationship with the US," Gandhi stated, drawing a direct link to the current situation where India is actively purchasing Russian oil, even as other nations imposed sanctions.

"Now, India is importing Russian oil. Why is the government not telling the people that its foreign policy is for the benefit of the nation?" he challenged, implying that the policy serves specific, undisclosed interests rather than the broader national good.

Gandhi further deepened his attack by recalling a period when the UPA government was purchasing Russian oil.

He alleged that the very same Modi government, then in opposition, had vehemently opposed such purchases. "When the UPA government used to buy oil from Russia, the Modi government strongly opposed it. Now, with soaring fuel prices, they are buying Russian oil without any explanation," Gandhi asserted, painting a picture of double standards and opportunism.
