Rachin Ravindra’s Shoulder Dislocation Leaves His Spot in India T20I Series Uncertain

New Zealand’s promising all‑rounder Rachin Ravindra found himself nursing a painful surprise on September 16. While trying to pull off a dramatic diving catch for a promotional video in Auckland, he twisted his right shoulder badly enough that it popped out of place.

Doctors examined him on September 18 and, thankfully, said there’s no serious structural damage – no torn ligaments or fractures that would need surgery. Still, a dislocation isn’t something you can just shrug off; the rehab will decide how fast he can get back on the field.

At the moment, the exact timeline is fuzzy. The International Cricket Council (ICC) notes that his return hinges on how smoothly his shoulder heals in the first few weeks of physiotherapy. That leaves the five‑match T20I series against India, slated to kick off on October 22, very much up in the air.

New Zealand head coach Rob Walter is quick to stress a long‑term perspective. “We have a packed Test schedule over the next half‑year, so we don’t want to rush Rachin back before he’s truly ready,” Walter told the media. “He’s in good hands with the rehab team, and we’ll welcome him back when he’s fit.”

The rest of the tour is already mapped out. After the T20Is, the Kiwis will face India in a five‑match ODI series from November 4 to 15, followed by two Tests between November 19 and December 1, with the matches set for Wellington and Christchurch.
