Punjab's Cry for Help: Congress Leader Bajwa Demands Urgent Flood Relief Before Assessments Even Begin

His message is unequivocal: help the people now, and count the losses later.

Bajwa painted a grim picture of the ground reality, highlighting that thousands of acres of paddy, maize, and vegetable crops lie submerged and ruined. Beyond the agricultural devastation, countless homes have either collapsed or suffered severe damage, leaving families displaced and vulnerable.

In a powerful demand for justice and compassion, Bajwa outlined specific financial assistance requirements. He urged the state government to immediately disburse Rs 25,000 per acre as compensation for all damaged crops, a crucial lifeline for farmers facing catastrophic losses.

For those whose homes have been utterly destroyed, he called for a substantial relief package of Rs 5 lakh, while demanding Rs 1 lakh for each livestock lost to the floods. These figures, he argued, are not merely arbitrary numbers but reflect the urgent needs of those who have lost everything.

The Congress leader did not mince words in his criticism of the state government's handling of the crisis.

He accused the administration of a "criminal delay" in responding to the escalating situation, pointing out the grave oversight of not promptly declaring the floods a natural calamity. This failure, he contended, has directly impeded the flow of much-needed central assistance, leaving the state's citizens in an even more precarious position.

Bajwa also questioned the absence of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann from the severely affected areas, suggesting a disconnect between the leadership and the plight of its people. "Why has the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government failed to act decisively?" he questioned, demanding accountability.
