Predatory Allegations: North Bay Man Busted for Posing as Talent Scout to Solicit Minor

In a truly disturbing development that has certainly sent a chill through the community, a North Bay man now faces serious charges after allegedly posing as a talent scout for an adult film company, all to solicit a minor. Matthew Joseph Sarti, a 36-year-old from Petaluma, was taken into custody on May 15th following an investigation that highlights the insidious dangers lurking online, particularly for our youth.

It all began, as these troubling cases often do, with a report from a concerned parent. Back in March, the Novato Police Department received information regarding a 15-year-old girl from Petaluma who had been contacted on Snapchat. The individual reaching out, allegedly Sarti, presented himself as a talent scout – specifically, for an adult film production company. You can only imagine the immediate red flags that went up.

The alleged ruse was quite chillingly specific. Sarti reportedly asked the teenager to send explicit photos and videos of herself, framing these requests as part of the “scouting” process for a potential opportunity in the adult entertainment industry. This, of course, is a deeply predatory tactic, preying on vulnerability and, frankly, any fleeting desire for fame or opportunity, no matter how misguided.

Thankfully, investigators at the Novato PD acted swiftly and decisively. A detective, bravely going undercover, posed as the victim's mother and began communicating with Sarti. This critical step allowed law enforcement to gather further evidence and, more importantly, to set up a controlled environment for a potential arrest. It's a testament to their dedication when they step into such sensitive roles to protect children.

The sting culminated on May 15th. An in-person meeting was arranged in Novato, and when Sarti arrived at the agreed-upon location, officers were ready. He was apprehended without incident, ending what could have been a far more tragic situation for the young girl involved. The relief, one imagines, was palpable for the family and the investigators alike.

Sarti has since been booked into Marin County Jail, facing charges of soliciting a minor to engage in lewd acts. While this arrest is a significant step, police are actively emphasizing that their investigation is far from over. They firmly believe that there may be other victims out there who have also been contacted by Sarti under similar false pretenses. This is often the case with such individuals, unfortunately.
