Power Glitch Halts Namma Metro’s Green Line for 45 Minutes

It was just after the morning rush had begun on July 21, 2026, when commuters on Bengaluru’s Green Line noticed something odd – the trains that usually whisk people from Yeshwanthpur to Madavara ground to a halt. A sudden power breakdown knocked the line offline for roughly 45 minutes.

According to Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), the outage started at about 8 a.m. and persisted until 8.45 a.m. In the meantime, a makeshift short‑loop service was run between Silk Institute and Yeshwanthpur, just to keep a trickle of passengers moving.

By 8.45 a.m., technicians had got the electricity back on, and regular, revenue‑earning services resumed across the whole Green Line. BMRCL issued a statement expressing regret for the inconvenience, thanking commuters for their patience, and assuring that the team was working “on a war footing” to sort the problem.

The incident comes after a couple of other technical hiccups earlier in the month – a major fault on the underground Purple Line on June 23 and a door‑chain snag at Cubbon Park on June 26 – but this July disruption was confined to the northern stretch of the Green Line.

While the outage was brief, its timing during the peak‑hour rush meant many commuters faced a few extra minutes of waiting or had to switch to buses and autos. BMRCL has not indicated any lasting impact, and services have been running smoothly since the restoration.
