Political Tempest: Congress Blasts BJP Over Alleged Snub to Nehru in Mumbai Metro Naming

A fresh political storm is brewing in the heart of Maharashtra, as the Indian National Congress has unleashed a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government. The contentious issue at hand? The alleged deliberate omission of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, from the list of proposed names for Mumbai Metro stations, despite prior assurances.

Congress spokesperson Atul Londhe voiced the party's strong disapproval, accusing the BJP of a concerted effort to "erase history" and diminish the monumental contributions of Nehru to modern India.

Londhe highlighted that this perceived snub is particularly galling given that the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government had, in principle, agreed to name a metro station after the revered leader. He emphasized Nehru's pivotal role in laying the foundations of the nation's democratic, scientific, and industrial infrastructure, questioning the motives behind excluding such a foundational figure.

The specific station at the center of this burgeoning controversy is the underground Cuffe Parade terminal on the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro Line 3.

Londhe asserted that the previous state cabinet had already given its nod to name this crucial station after Nehru, making the current administration's apparent disregard for this decision a matter of profound political insult.
