PM Narendra Modi Prays to Goddess Shailputri on the First Day of Sharadiya Navratri

Modi, Rajnath Singh, Yogi Adityanath and other leaders send heartfelt wishes on Navratri’s opening day

On the auspicious start of Sharadiya Navratri, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior leaders offered prayers to Goddess Shailputri, hoping her blessings bring patience, confidence and peace across India.

New Delhi – As the drums of Sharadiya Navratri began to echo across homes and temples, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to X (formerly Twitter) to extend his greetings. In a short, heartfelt note, he placed his salutations at the feet of Mother Shailputri, the first form of the divine Durga.

“On the auspicious commencement of Navratri, crores of salutations at the feet of Mother Shailaputri, the presiding deity of peace. May the divine grace of the Mother kindle the lamp of patience and self‑confidence in the hearts of all,” the PM wrote. He added a simple, sincere wish – that the goddess’s blessings remain ever‑present for every Indian.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also joined the chorus of good wishes. Speaking about the deity’s symbolism, he said Shailputri inspires reverence for nature and steadiness in life. “May the primordial energy of Mother Shailputri infuse happiness, peace and prosperity into everyone’s life,” Singh posted, echoing the PM’s hope for a resilient nation.

Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, known for his devotion to Shakti worship, shared his own prayer. He asked that the goddess’s boundless grace fill people with inner strength, patience and positive energy, and that harmony spread worldwide. “May every home be illuminated with happiness and auspiciousness,” he concluded.

Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, too, highlighted the spiritual significance of the first day. She described Mother Shailputri as the embodiment of nature and the primordial creative power. Gupta prayed for health, happiness, peace and prosperity for all families, hoping the goddess’s compassionate gaze stays with every household.

Sharadiya Navratri, the nine‑day festival honoring the nine forms of Goddess Durga, begins with Shailputri – the mountain‑born daughter of Shiva, symbolising stability and pure devotion. Across the country, millions will observe fasts, perform dances, and offer flowers, all while seeking the divine blessings the leaders have so warmly invoked.

In a time when the nation faces economic and social challenges, these public prayers carry more than ritual – they are a reminder that cultural heritage and collective hope can act as a steadying force. As the Navratri lamps flicker in homes from Delhi to Kanyakumari, the shared sentiment remains the same: may the goddess’s grace guide us toward patience, confidence and lasting peace.
