Paul Bettany on VisionQuest: How the New MCU Series Echoes WandaVision

When Disney+ announced that VisionQuest would arrive on October 14, the MCU community started buzzing. After all, it’s the third chapter in what many call Wanda’s unofficial trilogy – after WandaVision and the Agatha: Coven of Chaos spin‑off.

First off, Bettany says VisionQuest picks up right where WandaVision left off. The “White Vision” who survived the Hex now carries the original Vision’s memories, and he’s trying to figure out who he is in a world that suddenly feels a lot larger.

That larger world is, according to Bettany, a literal mind‑space – think of it as a mansion inside Vision’s head. "It’s a crazy idea of a mental house with endless rooms," he laughs, adding that each room can shift, expand or collapse at a whim. The mansion isn’t empty, either; it’s populated by a collection of AIs, including a very familiar face – Ultron.

“They all have different skill sets to help him analyze the data of being alive, and that’s just really fun,” Bettany says. He notes that the thematic swing from WandaVision to VisionQuest is intentional. While WandaVision played with sitcom tropes and grief, VisionQuest dives into the absurd, eccentric side of existential inquiry – a “massive swing,” as he puts it.

Fans have been hoping for a Wanda cameo, especially since her son Billy (or “Billy Maximoff”) appears in the new trailer. Bettany remains coy about how much Wanda will actually show up, but he hints that the family dynamic will still be a thread running through the series.

One more name to watch: Tommy Maximoff, Wanda’s other child, also returns. Bettany suggests that his role might be more than a footnote, though the exact storyline is still under wraps.
