Oroville Charter School Briefly Placed on Secure Hold After Threats

Early Tuesday morning, officers from the Oroville Police Department responded to a series of alarming phone calls reporting threats directed at STREAM Charter School. The alerts were taken seriously, and detectives moved quickly to secure the campus.

When the threat was deemed credible, school officials, following police guidance, placed the building on a "secure hold." In a secure hold, every classroom and office stays locked, but normal activities continue inside—lights stay on, teachers keep teaching, and students remain in their seats. It’s not the same as a lockdown, where lights are dimmed, doors are bolted and everyone hides.

Police conducted a thorough sweep of the property, checking every hallway, restroom and perimeter fence for suspicious items. After about an hour, investigators announced that they had found no evidence of an ongoing danger to students, staff, or the building itself.

Shortly thereafter, a suspect was taken into custody on charges related to the threats. Details about the individual have not been released pending further investigation, but authorities confirmed that the person is being held and questioned.

With the immediate risk cleared, the secure hold was lifted and the school resumed its regular schedule. Administrators thanked the community for staying calm and emphasized that the safety of the kids remains their top priority.

Parents and teachers expressed relief that the situation was resolved without incident. “We’re grateful for the swift response and for keeping our children safe,” one parent said. The incident also sparked a reminder of the importance of reporting any suspicious behavior, no matter how minor it might seem.
