Northern Alberta Tragedy: Man Charged with First-Degree Murder in Fatal Home Invasion

A somber chapter has unfolded in northern Alberta, as RCMP announced a major breakthrough in a deadly home invasion that claimed the life of a 37-year-old man. Authorities have now laid first-degree murder charges against an individual in connection with the tragic incident that deeply impacted the Wabasca-Desmarais community.

The distressing event first came to light on the evening of April 25, 2024, when Wabasca-Desmarais RCMP were called to a residence following reports of a serious home invasion.

Responding officers discovered 37-year-old Russell Lamouche suffering from life-threatening injuries sustained during the violent intrusion. He was immediately transported to hospital, where medical teams battled to save his life.

Despite the best efforts of healthcare professionals, Russell Lamouche tragically succumbed to his injuries two days later, on April 27.

His death escalated the investigation significantly, prompting the RCMP Major Crimes Unit to take the lead in what became a complex and meticulous search for justice.

After weeks of diligent investigative work, RCMP have identified and charged Travis John Desjarlais, also 37, in connection with Lamouche's death.

Desjarlais faces a litany of serious charges, including first-degree murder, break and enter, disguise with intent, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. These charges reflect the gravity and premeditated nature of the crime.
