NIA Chargesheets Key Conspirator in Brazen Jharkhand Naxal Attack on Security Forces

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken a significant step forward in the ongoing fight against Naxal insurgency, formally filing a chargesheet against Ramesh Singh, a key accused in the audacious attack on security forces in Jharkhand earlier this year. The ambush, which unfolded on February 10, 2024, saw a joint team of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Jharkhand Police fall victim to a calculated assault.

As the security personnel conducted operations in the dense forest area of Bara Chakarbanda, located in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district, they were met with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast followed by indiscriminate firing. The coordinated attack resulted in injuries to one jawan, highlighting the perilous nature of anti-Naxal operations.

Ramesh Singh, identified as a dedicated cadre of the proscribed Communist Party of India (Maoist) — CPI (Maoist) — stands accused of playing a pivotal role in the conspiracy.

The NIA's investigation revealed that Singh was not merely a passive supporter but an active participant, providing essential logistical support to the Naxal cadres. His alleged actions included offering shelter, supplying food, guiding the militants through the challenging terrain, and facilitating the transportation of arms and ammunition crucial for the ambush.

The chargesheet details a litany of serious offenses against Ramesh Singh.

He has been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Arms Act, the Explosive Substances Act, and most notably, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). These stringent provisions reflect the gravity of the accusations, underscoring the severe nature of his alleged involvement in acts of terror and violence against the state.

The NIA had taken over the investigation of the case on February 26, 2024, following its initial registration by local police.
