NIA Apprehends PFI Bihar Chief in Phulwari Sharif Terror Plot

In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the Phulwari Sharif (Bihar) conspiracy case, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has successfully apprehended Riyaz Ahmed alias Riyazuddin, identified as the Bihar State President of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI). The arrest, which occurred on Thursday, marks a crucial step in dismantling the terror module allegedly being orchestrated by the outfit.

Ahmed's arrest stems from a comprehensive investigation into the Phulwari Sharif case, where the PFI is accused of engaging in subversive activities, including radicalization, arms training, and fundraising with the ultimate goal of establishing an Islamic Caliphate in India.

The NIA has been relentlessly pursuing individuals involved in this intricate network since the initial raids and arrests in July 2022.

The agency revealed that Ahmed had been evading arrest since the initial crackdown and was declared a proclaimed offender. His apprehension follows the arrest of another key accused, Mohd Irshad Alam, in February, who was allegedly involved in arranging safe houses for PFI operatives and facilitating their meetings and training sessions.

The Phulwari Sharif case initially came to light when local police in Bihar registered an FIR in July 2022, after uncovering a plot by PFI members to recruit and radicalize youth.

The case was subsequently taken over by the NIA, which has since filed multiple charge sheets against several individuals under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Investigations have revealed that the PFI had established an elaborate network across various states, conducting secret training camps and promoting radical ideologies.

The group allegedly aimed to train individuals in the use of weapons and explosives, preparing them for acts of terror and ultimately seeking to undermine India's constitutional framework.

Ahmed's capture is expected to provide further insights into the operational structure and funding mechanisms of the PFI in Bihar and potentially unearth more conspirators.

The NIA remains committed to rooting out all elements involved in anti-national activities and ensuring the security and integrity of the nation.
