While thousands gathered across the city to usher in 2024 with high spirits, an ugly incident unfolded near the bustling MG Road area, reminding us that even amidst grand festivities, vigilance remains paramount.

It was late into the night, or perhaps early morning on January 1st, when the festive atmosphere gave way to distress. Reports emerged of two men, later identified as Prithvi, aged 20, and Surya, 21, allegedly engaging in what can only be described as reprehensible behavior: harassing women near the Garuda Mall stretch on Magrath Road. This wasn't just a minor squabble; we're talking about verbal abuse and inappropriate physical contact, actions that certainly cross the line and deeply disturb the sense of safety everyone deserves, especially during public celebrations.

Thankfully, amidst the chaos and crowd, a vigilant eye was present. Head constable Ravi, a dedicated officer on duty, noticed the troubling scene unfolding. With incredible courage and commitment to his uniform, he stepped in to intervene. Now, you'd think in such a situation, people would back down, wouldn't you? But no, instead of complying, the accused allegedly turned their aggression towards the officer. Prithvi, in a brazen act, reportedly punched the head constable, and Surya, his accomplice, was also involved in the scuffle. Head constable Ravi, who sustained injuries during the assault, received prompt medical attention at a private hospital. These include Section 354 of the IPC, which deals with assault or criminal force to outrage a woman's modesty; Section 353 for assaulting a public servant; Section 509 for insulting a woman's modesty; and other charges like intentional insult and voluntarily causing hurt. It's a stark reminder, really, that such unacceptable behavior carries severe consequences. Hopefully, this swift response sends a clear message: public safety, especially for women, is non-negotiable, and those who dare to threaten it will be held accountable.
