New Underbridge Unveiled at Bengaluru’s Ramohalli Gate

On Thursday, Karnataka’s Urban Development Minister K. Somanna cut the ceremonial ribbon on a brand‑new underbridge at Ramohalli Gate, Bengaluru. The structure, which cost the state about Rs 8.84 crore, is expected to cut travel time for commuters heading to the city’s eastern corridors.

For years, the bustling Ramohalli intersection has been a choke point, especially during peak hours. Vehicles trying to turn left or right often get stuck, creating long queues that spill onto adjoining roads. The new underpass lets traffic move beneath the busy junction, letting cars and buses glide through without stopping for crossing traffic.

During the inauguration, Minister Somanna highlighted the project’s role in the larger “Smart Bengaluru” plan, noting that the underbridge is part of a series of road‑widening and fly‑over works slated for the next few years. “We are not just building concrete; we are building smoother journeys for the people who drive, ride, and walk every day,” he said, with a hint of pride.

Local residents gathered at the site, many expressing relief that the infamous traffic jam might finally ease. “We have been waiting for this for years,” said one commuter, gesturing toward the sleek arches of the new structure. While construction caused temporary inconvenience, most acknowledged that the short‑term disruption would pay off in the long run.

Engineers from the Public Works Department explained that the underbridge incorporates modern drainage and lighting systems to ensure safety during monsoon season. The design also includes provisions for future expansion, should traffic volumes continue to rise.

As the ribbon fell, traffic began to shift onto the newly opened lanes, offering a glimpse of a less congested future for the Ramohalli area. The underbridge is now fully operational and will be monitored for performance over the coming months.
