Nellore Readies Ganesh Ghat for Vinayaka Chaturthi Immersion

As the moon rises higher each night, the buzz in Nellore is unmistakable – Vinayaka Chaturthi is just around the corner and the city’s beloved Ganesh ghat is fast becoming a hive of activity.

By the evening of September 12, the water‑logged stretch beside the Sri Irukalala Parameswari Ammavaru temple is expected to be fully decked out, ready to receive dozens of Ganesh idols for the ceremonial immersion. The ghat, affectionately called the town’s ‘Ganesh Ghat’, spans a wide expanse of water, making it a suitable spot not only for Nellore city and rural constituencies but also for neighboring segments such as Kovur and Sarvepalli.

On Tuesday, TDP state spokesperson Kotamreddy Giridhar Reddy – who also sits on the Vikrama Simhapuri Ganesh Festival Committee – paid a thorough visit alongside former mayor N. Bhanusri. Together they walked the perimeter, checking floats, safety barriers, and the makeshift puja pandals that are sprouting up like mushrooms after the monsoon.

“We invite everyone, young and old, to join the immersion ceremony and celebrate together,” Mr. Reddy said, his voice echoing the festive spirit that’s already in the air. He also reminded devotees to adhere to the guidelines issued by the municipal authorities, especially regarding crowd control and environmental safety.

Local vendors have already begun setting up stalls, offering everything from sweet modaks to vibrant rangoli designs. Families are polishing their newly crafted idols, while volunteers coordinate cleanup drives, hoping to leave the water body as pristine as it was before the festivities.

In a city where tradition and modernity intertwine, the upcoming immersion at Ganesh ghat is more than just a ritual; it’s a testament to community spirit, faith, and the collective hope for a prosperous year ahead.
