Indeed, the atmosphere at the Chief Minister's house, where these crucial discussions unfolded on Thursday, was charged with strategy and expectation. Nawaz Sharif, alongside his daughter and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, engaged deeply with key figures such as Shah Ghulam Qadir, the PML-N's AJK president, and Tariq Farooq, another prominent party leader. Also present were Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and Senator Anusha Rahman. The big question on everyone's mind, and certainly on the agenda, was the nomination for the next AJK prime minister. While the leadership was deliberating in Lahore, back in Muzaffarabad, the AJK Legislative Assembly was bustling with activity on Monday. This was the day designated for the election of members to the eight reserved seats – five for women, one for Ulema and Mashaikh, one for technocrats and professionals, and one for state subjects residing abroad. And what a day it turned out to be for the PML-N! They truly swept the board, securing every single one of these seats, effectively consolidating their parliamentary strength.

For the five women's reserved seats, the PML-N put forward four formidable candidates: Riffat Abid, Sehrish Qamar, Maryam Idrees, and Maryam Zaman, also known as Maryam Kashmiri. Interestingly, the PPP had initially nominated three candidates – Farzana Yaqoob, Zobia Khurshid Raja, and Shaheen Kosar Dar – but Ms. Dar ultimately withdrew her nomination.
