Nagpur Tragedy: Woman Dies After Husband Allegedly Attacks Her Over Refusing to Cook

On a quiet Thursday night in the Jhingabai‑Takli neighbourhood of Nagpur, a domestic quarrel spiralled into a deadly episode that has left the community reeling. Krishnakant Yadav, who had just come home from work around ten‑o’clock, asked his wife Yamini to prepare dinner for him and their children. Yamini, however, was gearing up for a dance practice ahead of the Ganesh festival and politely declined.

What might have been a simple disagreement escalated quickly. According to neighbours and early police statements, Krishnakant allegedly grabbed Yamini by the neck, punched her repeatedly and forced her onto the bed. When Yamini reportedly said she felt unwell, her husband drove her to a nearby hospital. The medical team, despite their efforts, declared her dead shortly thereafter.

The initial police report listed the death as accidental, but a subsequent autopsy painted a far grimmer picture. Pathologists found a fractured cervical vertebra, severe damage to the intestines and clear signs of strangulation. Such injuries are hard to explain away as a mere fall or an accidental mishap.

Further investigation revealed that Krishnakant was reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. The combination of alleged physical assault, substance influence and the brutal nature of the injuries prompted the Mankapur police to upgrade the case to a murder probe.

Friends of the couple say Yamini was a vibrant young woman, often seen rehearsing dance steps in the society’s common area. Her sudden death has sparked outrage, with many questioning the prevalence of domestic violence that remains hidden behind closed doors.

Police are now conducting a detailed inquiry, interviewing neighbours, reviewing CCTV footage from the locality and examining the husband’s statements. The case highlights the urgent need for stronger support mechanisms for victims of domestic abuse in Maharashtra and across India.
