Multiple Injured After Police Pursuit Ends in Collision on South Van Ness

It was just after 8 p.m. on Sunday when San Francisco police spotted a pickup truck weaving through traffic near Guerrero and 19th streets. Officers tried to pull the driver over, but the truck kept speeding, showing what the department later described as a “willful and wanton disregard for public safety.”

The chase wound its way down South Van Ness Avenue and, at the intersection with 14th Street, the driver finally lost control. The truck crashed straight into a sedan that was waiting at the light. The impact sent the sedan careening into a fire hydrant and then nudging a nearby car‑dealership storefront.

Firefighters arrived quickly. They counted nine injured parties – five people inside the pickup and four occupants of the struck car. Two of those victims were listed as critical, six sustained minor to moderate injuries, and one declined transport to the hospital.

Police also noted that a patrol car was nearly clipped during the pursuit, underscoring how close the situation came to getting even worse. The driver of the pickup, along with the other four passengers, was detained for questioning. Their identities have not been released, and charges are still pending.
