It began in the early 1900s with his great-grandfather, Laxman Sakharam Patkar, who pioneered the art of papier-mâché idol making. For over a century, the Patkar family has been dedicated to this craft, adapting and innovating while holding firm to their eco-conscious roots. While the widespread adoption of Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols offered initial advantages in cost and durability, it came at a steep environmental price – polluting our water bodies and taking years, even decades, to degrade.

Today, Saurabh is reclaiming and revitalizing this ancestral wisdom.

His idols are meticulously handcrafted from papier-mâché, clay, and 'shadu matti' – a natural, fine clay known for its purity. This choice of material is pivotal: unlike their PoP counterparts, Saurabh's idols gracefully dissolve in water within a mere 3-4 hours, leaving no trace of pollution behind.

This rapid degradation is a stark contrast to PoP, which can take months to years, leaching harmful chemicals into our precious ecosystems.
