More than 300 flight cancellations reported at Denver International Airport on MLK Day

Flight delays and cancellations continue to mount at Denver International Airport due to difficult weather conditions and despite “normal’ operations at the airport itself. “While the airport is experiencing cold temperatures, we ask that passengers check with their airlines before heading to the airport, arrive at least two hours before their boarding time and expect some delays if deicing procedures are in place,” said Ashley Forest, an airport spokesperson.

FlightAware, , reports 99 delayed flights in or out of Denver as of Monday morning compared to 14,234 nationally. Denver has 310 cancellations reported on Monday morning compared to 2,649 nationally. Of Monday’s cancellations, Southwest Airlines, the airport’s second largest carrier, accounts for 201 of them. United, the largest carrier, has 68, while SkyWest was responsible for 21. Southwest is facing difficulties tied to weather conditions with its operations out of Texas, in particular Dallas Fort Worth, according to news reports.

United is leading in terms of delays early on Monday, with 43 of them. Drive times from downtown Denver to the airport are running about 32 minutes just before 9 a.m. Monday, with slower than normal speeds most of the way, according to Google Maps.
