Montclair's Lacrosse Maestros Dominate in Playoff Opener

Ah, the playoffs! There's just a different buzz in the air, isn't there? And for the Montclair boys' lacrosse squad, that buzz translated into pure dominance as they absolutely overwhelmed Bergen Tech in their North Group 4 tournament opener, securing a decisive 17-3 victory. What a way to kick things off!

From the very first whistle, it was clear the Mounties were dialed in. Their offense just clicked, operating with a fluidity that Bergen Tech struggled to contain. Liam Gerard, a true standout, led the charge with an incredible five goals and chipped in two assists for good measure. Not far behind was Aidan McGrath, who also had a fantastic day with four goals and a pair of assists. And let's not forget Charlie Pfund, adding three goals and two assists himself, showing off that balanced attack Montclair is known for.

The scoring depth didn't stop there, either. Jack MacEvoy and Spencer Gli each contributed a couple of goals, while Solomon Brenneman rounded out the impressive tally with one of his own. The Mounties really set the tone early, roaring out to a commanding 5-1 lead by the end of the first quarter. There was no letting up, you know? They just kept the pedal to the metal, extending their advantage to a comfortable 11-2 by halftime. By the time the third quarter wrapped up, Montclair had built an almost insurmountable 16-2 cushion, essentially putting the game to bed well before the final whistle. It was a masterclass in maintaining momentum.

To their credit, Bergen Tech did manage to put a few on the board. Dylan Petrie was a bright spot for them, netting two goals, and Patrick Reicherter added another. Their goalies, Noah Johnson and Justin Choe, certainly faced an onslaught, making eight and five saves respectively, doing their best against Montclair's relentless attack. They never quit, which you have to respect, even when the score wasn't going their way.
