Monsoon Havoc: Northern India Schools Close Amid Torrential Rains

The monsoon season has unleashed its full fury across Northern India, bringing with it torrential rains that have triggered widespread disruptions, most notably leading to a wave of school closures. In a critical move, Punjab has announced the closure of all government and private schools for students up to the 10th standard.

This vital measure is effective from June 27th to June 29th, a decision personally taken by the state's Education Minister, Harjot Singh Bains, to shield children from the intense weather conditions gripping the region. Further north, the region of Jammu also felt the immediate impact of the monsoon's wrath, with all schools directed to remain shut on June 28th.

Parents and guardians across the district were strongly advised to ensure children stayed indoors to mitigate any potential risks.

The picturesque hills of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are likewise under siege from the relentless monsoon.

Both states have been receiving incessant rains, leading to heightened alerts for landslides and flash floods. While specific statewide school closures were not universally declared for all districts, local administrations in particularly vulnerable areas have issued urgent advisories and, in many instances, ordered temporary school holidays as a protective measure against the perilous conditions.

Closer to the capital, Gurugram witnessed a proactive and immediate response to the heavy rains.

All government and private schools in the district were ordered to close on June 27th and 28th for all classes. The district administration emphatically highlighted the severity of the rainfall and the widespread waterlogging in numerous areas, deeming travel unsafe for both students and teachers.

Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) have not been spared from the monsoon's intensity.

While the Delhi government has, to date, refrained from declaring a blanket school holiday across the entire city, the region has been experiencing significant rainfall, leading to considerable traffic snarls and localized flooding. Schools in Delhi are operating with heightened caution, and parents are advised to remain constantly updated on local weather forecasts and prevailing transport conditions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued continuous and severe warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall across various parts of North India, strongly urging residents to exercise extreme caution and vigilance.
