Modi Celebrates India's Gold Medal Sweep at International Science Olympiads

In the latest episode of his "Mann Ki Baat" radio programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a moment to applaud a wave of triumphs coming from India’s classrooms. He said the nation’s youngsters are once again making "Bharat proud" in the realm of science.

India’s contingent at this year’s International Science Olympiads – covering physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics – returned home with a glittering haul of medals. All five of the country’s representatives in the Physics Olympiad clinched gold, securing the top rank overall. The chemistry team mirrored that brilliance, with every participant walking away with a gold medal as well. In biology, Indian scholars added another gold to the tally, while the maths squad earned two golds and four silvers. "I am very proud of the youth of the country," Modi remarked, his voice tinged with genuine admiration.

Switching gears, the Prime Minister turned his attention to a grassroots innovation emerging from Sitamarhi, Bihar. There, a "waste‑to‑wealth" model is turning single‑use plastic into sturdy, attractive benches for schools, parks and public spaces. Roughly 40 kg of discarded plastic goes into each bench, which is described as strong, durable and environmentally friendly. "It’s a wonderful example of how waste can be turned into something useful," Modi said, adding that the project also spreads awareness about ecological stewardship.

Later in the address, Modi paid heartfelt tribute on Kargil Vijay Diwas, the day India commemorates the 1999 Kargil conflict. He recalled the "extraordinary courage" of the soldiers who braved harsh terrain and hostile fire to protect the nation. "Today we remember their sacrifice and the resolve that turned every obstacle into a stepping stone for victory," he said, noting that India’s defence capabilities continue to grow, positioning the country as a trusted global partner.

The Prime Minister’s remarks stitched together three distinct threads – academic excellence, innovative sustainability, and reverence for the armed forces – underscoring a vision of a resilient, forward‑moving India.
