Mission Viejo's Halloween Haunts: Your 2026 Guide to Spooky Fun!

Alright, Mission Viejo, get ready to mark your calendars because the spooky season of 2026 is almost upon us, and our city is absolutely buzzing with a fantastic lineup of Halloween happenings for everyone! Seriously, whether you're into thrilling scares, adorable animal encounters, or just a good old-fashioned pumpkin, we've got you covered. Let's dive right into all the fun!

First up, prepare for something truly unique: the annual Pumpkin Dive! Picture this: a shimmering pool, sunshine, and a 'floating pumpkin patch.' Yes, you read that right! On Saturday, October 3rd, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. (with an early splash for ABLE participants at 1 p.m.), head over to the Montanoso Recreation Center. You'll get to pick your perfect pumpkin right from the water, then jazz it up with some creative embellishments, and even enjoy some classic carnival games. Sounds like a blast, right?

For those who crave a bit of a thrill, you absolutely cannot miss the Haunted Escape Room at the Sierra Recreation and Fitness Center. This one’s completely free, which is fantastic, but you absolutely must register in advance to secure your spot. It’s perfect for ages 8 and up, promising some good, clean, spooky fun on October 9th, 10th, and 11th. Don't wait – give them a call at 949-452-8342 to reserve your team's adventure!

Now, if your heart melts for our furry (and scaly!) friends, then the Fur-Ever Friends Fall Festival is calling your name! This free, family-friendly event takes place on Saturday, October 10th, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center. It’s a heartwarming chance to meet adoptable animals – we're talking dogs, cats, bunnies, and even reptiles – from over a dozen rescue groups. Plus, there will be crafts, kid activities, wildlife education, and plenty of opportunities to meet and greet some amazing creatures. What a wonderful way to spend a fall afternoon!

Our wonderful Mission Viejo Library is really pulling out all the stops this Halloween, with a whole host of fantastic events! Kicking things off on Thursday, October 8th, at 6 p.m. is the adorable Stuffie Sleepover! Kids can bring their beloved stuffed animals for an evening storytime, then leave them for a sleepover adventure at the library. Imagine the stories those stuffies will have! Pick them up the next day along with their very own adventure journal. Too cute!

Adults, don't think we forgot about you! The library is hosting an Adults Creative Night: Spooktacular Crafts on Thursdays, October 10th or 24th, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., upstairs in the Unquiet Study Area. This free event for ages 17 and older requires registration, so head over to bit.ly/LibAdults to sign up. Get those creative juices flowing with some eerie crafting!

Teens, get ready to impress with your special effects! On Saturday, October 12th, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., the library is offering a Halloween Special Effects Makeup for Teens workshop in the Meeting Rooms. It's free for 6th-12th graders, but, you guessed it, registration is required at bit.ly/LibTeenEvents. Imagine the incredible looks you'll learn to create!

And for everyone who loves a classic Halloween tradition, the Library Trick-or-Treat is happening on Saturday, October 17th, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Mission Viejo Library. It’s a completely free event featuring festive trick-or-treat activity stations spread throughout the library. Don’t forget to don your best costumes and bring those trick-or-treat bags – it's going to be a blast!

Finally, another creative outlet for the 18+ crowd: Decor Creations - Cork Crafts on Thursday, October 29th, at 6:30 p.m. You'll get to craft charming pumpkin and candy corn cork decorations. More details and registration can be found at missionviejo.gov/event-category/library-programs. So many ways to get crafty and celebrate the season!
