Mild Tremors Rattle Nashik Talukas Over Two Days, No Casualties Reported

Between the early hours of Saturday and the wee hours of Sunday, residents across several talukas in Nashik district felt a subtle shaking under their feet. The tremors weren’t strong enough to cause panic, but they were definitely noticeable, especially in the villages of Kalwan, Surgana, Dindori and Peth.

According to the district disaster management officer, the first jolt was logged around 11:56 pm on Saturday in Dalwat, Kalwan taluka, followed shortly by similar rattles in Nanashi and Badgicha Pada of Dindori taluka. By 2:44 am on Sunday, Shivshet village in Peth taluka reported another mild shake.

Collectors and officials were quick to respond. Nashik Collector Ayush Prasad, speaking at a press conference, said the administration has already instructed teams to inspect potentially dangerous buildings, particularly in zones where landslides could become a threat. He added that cracks have appeared in the walls of a government ashram‑shala at Sarad, a sign that even modest quakes can expose structural weaknesses.

The Maharashtra Engineering & Research Institute, based in Nashik, measured the largest of these tremors at roughly 3.6 on the Richter scale. While that’s far from a destructive quake, the institute noted that fault lines running through the western part of the district can generate such activity, especially when heavy monsoon rains force water deep into the ground, raising underground pressure.

Prasad clarified that these are not main‑shocks but part of an “earthquake swarm” – a series of small quakes that can linger for days, weeks, or even longer. In regions prone to swarm activity, it’s not unusual to feel intermittent shaking over an extended period.

Authorities are urging citizens to stay alert, follow any directives from disaster‑management agencies, and report any unusual cracks or structural issues in their homes. As of now, there have been no reports of loss of life or significant property damage, but the warning serves as a reminder to remain vigilant.
