Milap Milan Zaveri Says He’s Found His Forte in Romance

When you think of Milir Milan Zaveri, the first thing that pops up is usually a raucous ‘Masti’ sequel or a noisy, action‑packed masala flick. The director‑writer, who carved a niche in adult‑comedy with titles like Masti 4 and Kya Kool Hai Hum 3, says the tables have turned. ‘I think I’ve finally found my forte with romance,’ he told PTI in Mumbai, a smile unmistakably genuine.

It wasn’t a sudden epiphany. In 2025 Zaveri’s Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat stormed the box office, soaring past the ₹100‑crore mark – a figure the industry still talks about as a pleasant surprise. The film, a breezy romantic‑drama, reminded him that love stories can be just as lucrative (and, frankly, a lot more fun) as noisy slap‑stick.

Riding that momentum, Zaveri’s next venture is slated for a July 24, 2026 release: Tera Yaar Hoon Main. The project is a full‑on romantic comedy that stars newcomer Aman Indra Kumar – the son of veteran director Indra Kumar – alongside Akanksha Sharma, fresh off the Telugu hit Laila. While the leads are green, the ensemble is anything but: the likes of Paresh Rawal, Johnny Lever, Supriya Pilgaonkar, Mrinal Kulkarni and Darshan Jariwala have signed on, promising a healthy dose of seasoned comic timing.

Behind the scenes, producers Ajay Murdia, Bina Indra Kumar and Manish Singhal are steering the ship, with Subhash Kale listed as co‑producer. Their combined experience in both revenue‑driven and content‑rich cinema seems to have given Zaveri the creative breathing room he needed.

But the romance‑loving director isn’t stopping there. He hinted at a next‑big‑thing – an “intense and violent love story” anchored by Aditya Roy Kapur. No title, no release date, just a tantalising promise that the upcoming film will push boundaries, mixing the tender with the tumultuous.

Of course, not every experiment lands perfectly. Masti 4, which opened earlier in 2025, under‑performed at the box office, prompting Zaveri to reflect on the changing audience palate. ‘Comedy is still there, dialogue baazi still works,’ he reassured, ‘but romance now feels like the natural next step.’
