MGM Springfield’s June Gaming Revenue Slides Slightly but Still Mirrors Last Year’s Figures

On Monday, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission let the cat out of the bag – MGM Springfield pulled in about $22.9 million in gross gambling revenue for June 2026. That number is a little lower than May’s $26 million, but, oddly enough, it’s almost a dead‑on match with what the casino earned in June 2025.

It’s worth remembering that when the resort‑style casino opened its doors back in August 2018, the operators were bragging about a projected average of $34.8 million a month. Reality, as it turns out, has never quite lived up to that hype. The June figure is a good reminder that the lofty expectations set before the doors opened remain out of reach.

Zooming out a bit, MGM isn’t the only player in town. Together with Plainridge Park Casino and Encore Boston Harbor, the three Massachusetts‑licensed casinos generated roughly $97.36 million in gambling revenue for June. Since those venues started operating, the Commonwealth has collected about $2.472 billion in taxes and fees – a tidy sum that funds a host of state programs.

Speaking of state funds, Governor Maura Healey and legislators have revived the community‑mitigation fund that had been scrubbed from the last three budgets. The plan earmarks 4 % of casino tax revenue for local‑grant projects, a move that could translate into roughly $10 million a year flowing back to neighborhoods across the Bay State.

Sports betting also made a splash. The state’s seven mobile/online licensees and three brick‑and‑mortar operators together generated $54.32 million in taxable sports‑wagering revenue in June. Of that, MGM Springfield’s in‑person sportsbook handled $811,407 in bets – a modest slice, but still a piece of the larger puzzle.

All in all, while the headline number shows a modest dip month‑over‑month, the broader picture is one of steady, if unspectacular, performance. Whether the casino can ever bridge the gap to those early‑day forecasts remains to be seen, but for now, the revenue stream is holding its own, even as a smoky haze from distant wildfires drifts over the casino’s glass façade.
