Metro Heist Foiled: Chennai Police Arrest Man for Daring Gold Theft from Malaysian Tourist on Train

In a swift and decisive action, Chennai police have apprehended a 28-year-old man in connection with the daring theft of a handbag, laden with valuable gold jewellery and foreign currency, from a Malaysian national aboard a Chennai Metro train. The incident, which initially cast a shadow over a tourist's journey, has been brought to a satisfying close with the recovery of all stolen items.

The victim, identified as Yeoh Swee Chin, a Malaysian citizen, was traveling from Central Metro station towards the Airport Metro on March 15 when the unfortunate incident occurred.

As she was alighting from the train at the Airport Metro station, her handbag, containing approximately 45 grams of glittering gold jewellery and Malaysian currency, was cunningly snatched.

Realizing the devastating loss upon reaching the airport, Ms. Chin promptly lodged a complaint with the local authorities.

The Chennai police immediately sprang into action, recognizing the urgency and the potential impact on tourist safety. Investigators meticulously reviewed extensive CCTV footage from various Metro stations and inside the trains, tracking the movements of passengers and potential suspects.

Their diligent efforts paid off, leading them to identify the alleged perpetrator as G.

Manikandan, a 28-year-old resident of Chromepet. Manikandan was subsequently located and taken into custody. During the interrogation, he reportedly confessed to the crime.

Thanks to the swift and professional response of the Chennai police, all the stolen gold jewellery and Malaysian currency were successfully recovered from the accused.
