Masked Marauder Unleashes Crime Spree on Southeast Portland Businesses

A wave of concern has swept through Southeast Portland as police actively search for a masked individual linked to a series of brazen robberies targeting local businesses. The community is urged to remain vigilant and assist authorities in identifying and apprehending the suspect responsible for these unsettling incidents.

The first reported incident occurred on Friday, May 22, around 8:30 p.m., when an acupuncture clinic situated near Southeast 11th Avenue and Ash Street became the target.

The masked assailant confronted staff, demanding money before making a swift escape. Fortunately, no physical injuries were reported, but the experience left those involved shaken.

Just two days later, on Sunday, May 24, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the same modus operandi was observed at a Starbucks coffee shop located at Southeast 12th Avenue and Hawthorne Boulevard.

During this encounter, the suspect not only demanded cash but also brandished a handgun, intensifying the gravity of the situation. Witnesses described a terrifying ordeal as the robber absconded with an undisclosed amount of money.

The Portland Police Bureau has released a detailed description of the suspect, hoping that public assistance will lead to a breakthrough in the investigation.

He is described as a male, standing approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a slender build. In both robberies, he was seen wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, and dark-colored gloves. Crucially, his face was obscured by a black mask. During the Starbucks robbery, he was also noted to be wearing a black baseball hat adorned with a light-colored logo.

These incidents underscore a serious threat to local businesses and the safety of employees and patrons.

The Portland Police Bureau's Robbery Unit is diligently working to piece together evidence and track down the individual behind these crimes. They are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed either of the robberies, or who recognizes the suspect from the description, to come forward.
