Man Stabbed While Trying to Break Up Fight at Fresno Encampment

Early Monday morning, just before 6 a.m., a disturbance erupted on an embankment close to northbound Highway 41 and Shaw Avenue in northeast Fresno. Two people – a man and a woman – who were living in an illegal encampment got into a heated argument that quickly turned physical.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 55‑year‑old passer‑by saw the scuffle and, thinking he could help, stepped in to try to break it up. Unfortunately, his good intentions backfired. The man who was involved in the original dispute pulled a knife and stabbed the good‑ Samaritan.

The victim was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. At this time, authorities have not released details about his condition, only that he is receiving medical care.

CHP officers are now canvassing the area and have opened a search for the suspect. So far, they have not released a physical description, but they are urging anyone who saw the incident or who might know anything about the attacker to contact them immediately.

This incident adds to a series of recent violent events in the Fresno area, prompting community members and local officials to call for increased safety measures around informal encampments.
