Mamata Banerjee Blasts BJP Over “Murder of Democracy” Claim After Kalyan Banerjee’s Attack

West Bengal’s political arena grew even more turbulent this week after a reported attack left BJP worker Kalyan Banerjee wounded. The incident, which took place near a rally site in Kolkata, has sparked sharp accusations from both sides.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, speaking at a press conference, did not mince words. She said the BJP’s own actions were “murdering democracy,” suggesting that the party’s tactics were eroding the very foundations of free, fair politics in the state. “When you resort to violence, you betray the people’s trust,” she added, a hint of frustration evident in her voice.

According to eyewitnesses, a group of unidentified assailants surrounded Banerjee’s convoy and hurled stones, one of which struck Kalyan Banerjee in the shoulder.
