Major Drug Bust Uncovers Cash, Cocaine, and a Loaded Gun in Sudbury

Well, it seems like the Greater Sudbury Police Service has really made a dent in the local drug scene. Their Drug Enforcement Unit recently executed a significant search warrant right here in the city, on Pine Street, bringing to light a rather substantial haul that frankly, keeps our community safer.

Imagine this: over $50,000 in cold, hard cash, just sitting there. And not just money, but a pretty hefty stash of drugs too – we're talking more than 300 grams of cocaine, which, when you do the math, translates to about $30,000 on the street. It’s quite a sum, isn't it?

But perhaps the most alarming find during this operation wasn't just the drugs or the cash, but a loaded .45 calibre handgun. The presence of such a weapon always escalates the seriousness of these situations, adding a layer of danger that’s truly unsettling for everyone involved, and of course, for the wider community.

Following the successful warrant execution, police took a 30-year-old individual into custody. As you might expect, they're facing a slew of serious charges. These include possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000, and several weapons-related offenses like unauthorized possession and knowledge of an unauthorized weapon, plus possession of a loaded restricted firearm. Oh, and a breach of probation was also tacked on for good measure.

The suspect, whose name hasn't been released publicly, was held for bail court. It’s a standard procedure, really, but it marks the beginning of a lengthy legal battle. While the immediate arrests and seizures are a win, the police also made it clear that their investigation into this matter is still very much active and ongoing.
