Major Crackdown: Pimpri Chinchwad Police Seize Eight Illicit Pistols, Arrest Six in Key Operation

Pimpri Chinchwad’s law enforcement recently struck a significant blow against illegal arms activity, bringing six individuals into custody and confiscating an alarming cache of eight illicit pistols, complete with live cartridges. It's a development that underscores the relentless efforts to keep our communities safe and secure.

The operation, a testament to diligent police work, began with a crucial tip-off received by the vigilant officers of the Crime Branch Unit IV. Information pointed towards individuals actively involved in the clandestine sale of firearms in the bustling Wakad area, a detail that immediately set the investigation in motion.

Acting swiftly on this intelligence, a team laid a trap, leading to the apprehension of Rahul Raju Waghmare and Aniket Ganesh Pawar. They were caught red-handed, each in possession of a country-made pistol. This initial breakthrough wasn't just two arrests; it was the thread that began to unravel a much larger network.

During their interrogation, Waghmare and Pawar, it seems, provided information that allowed investigators to widen their net. This led the police directly to Sameer Shivaji Bhosale, Mayur Sanjay Bansode, Vijay Laxman Shinde, and Sachin Sanjay Bansode, who were subsequently taken into custody.

By the time the dust settled, the police had managed to seize a total of eight country-made pistols and a dozen live cartridges – certainly a concerning amount of firepower off the streets. Beyond the weapons, four mobile phones were also confiscated, likely to be crucial in tracing communications and further connections. The estimated total value of everything seized stands at approximately Rs 2.58 lakh.

All six individuals are now facing serious charges under the relevant sections of the Arms Act (Sections 3 and 25) and the Maharashtra Police Act (Sections 37(1)(a) and 135). But this isn't the end of the story. Deputy Commissioner of Police Sandeep Doifode has affirmed that the investigation is very much active and ongoing. The crucial next step, of course, is to determine precisely where these firearms originated and, perhaps more unsettlingly, what their ultimate purpose might have been.
