Major Cocaine Bust in Midgell Rocks PEI Drug Scene

In a significant victory against drug trafficking, Prince Edward Island RCMP have seized approximately 100 grams of cocaine, cash, and drug paraphernalia following a traffic stop in Midgell. The operation, which began with a routine vehicle stop, quickly escalated into a detailed investigation, culminating in charges against two individuals.

The events unfolded on February 1st, when officers from the RCMP Provincial Priority Unit conducted a traffic stop in the quiet community of Midgell.

What initially seemed like a standard procedure soon revealed deeper illicit activity, prompting the involvement of the specialized Street Level Drug Unit. Their joint efforts led to an intensive investigation.

Based on intelligence gathered during the initial stop, police obtained a warrant to search the vehicle.

This search proved fruitful, uncovering a substantial amount of cocaine—estimated to be around 100 grams—along with a quantity of cash and various items associated with drug trafficking. This seizure represents a considerable disruption to the local drug supply chain.

Following the discovery, a 33-year-old man from Brackley Beach, who was driving the vehicle, and a 20-year-old woman from Charlottetown, identified as the passenger, were both arrested.

The very next day, on February 2nd, both individuals were formally charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine. Adding to his legal troubles, the driver also faces an additional charge of driving while prohibited.

Both accused have since been released with strict conditions and are scheduled to appear in Georgetown Provincial Court in April 2024.

The RCMP continues its investigation into this incident, highlighting their ongoing commitment to combating illegal drug activities across Prince Edward Island and ensuring the safety of its communities.
