Major Breakthrough: Notorious Babbar Khalsa Terrorist Kulwinderjit Singh Khanpuria Extradited to India

In a monumental stride against terrorism, Indian law enforcement agencies have successfully brought to justice one of the nation's most elusive and dangerous fugitives: Kulwinderjit Singh alias Khanpuria, a high-ranking terrorist associated with the proscribed Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). His extradition from Thailand to Punjab marks a significant victory in the relentless fight to dismantle terror networks and ensure accountability for heinous crimes.

Khanpuria, designated a terrorist by the Ministry of Home Affairs in 2020, has been on the radar of Indian intelligence for his deep involvement in a litany of terror activities that have plagued Punjab and other parts of India.

His criminal dossier is extensive, painting a chilling picture of a man dedicated to destabilizing peace and inciting violence.

Among the gravest accusations against him is his alleged role as the mastermind behind the audacious 2009 attack on the Punjab Police's Counter-Intelligence Headquarters in Amritsar.

This brazen assault underscored the serious threat posed by his network. Furthermore, Khanpuria is implicated in providing explosives for the devastating 2010 Patiala cinema hall blast, an act of terror that left a trail of fear and destruction.

His reign of terror also extended to targeted killings.

He is accused of orchestrating the murder of Dera Sacha Sauda follower Lakhwinder Singh alias Lakha in Patiala in 2016 and the attempted murder of another Dera follower, Piara Singh Teli, in 2017. Investigations have also linked him to a conspiracy to assassinate a prominent RSS leader, revealing his broad agenda of terror and sectarian violence.

For years, Khanpuria evaded capture, operating from foreign soil and continuing to direct terror modules within India.

A Red Corner Notice was issued against him in 2019, intensifying the global hunt. His eventual apprehension in Thailand in November 2022 was the culmination of meticulous intelligence gathering and sustained diplomatic efforts by the CBI, NIA, and other Indian intelligence agencies, working in close coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Home Affairs.

Punjab's Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, lauded the extradition as a major setback for the BKI and a testament to the unwavering resolve of Indian security forces.

DGP Yadav highlighted Khanpuria's involvement in cross-border smuggling of arms and explosives, financing terror operations, and radicalizing vulnerable youth for target killings. His removal from the terror landscape not only disrupts BKI's operational capabilities but also sends a clear message that no perpetrator of terror, no matter how distant or entrenched, will escape the long arm of justice.
