Maharashtra Braces for Cyclone Shakhti: Coastal Regions on High Alert!

Maharashtra is on high alert as severe cyclonic storm Shakhti rapidly approaches its coastline. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a stern warning, indicating that the cyclone is expected to make landfall or pass very close to the state's western shores within the next 24-48 hours.

This looming threat has prompted state authorities to activate their comprehensive disaster response mechanisms, ensuring the safety and well-being of millions.

Coastal districts, including Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg, are identified as the most vulnerable areas. Residents in low-lying regions and along the immediate coast have been advised to remain vigilant and prepare for potential evacuation.

The IMD's latest bulletin forecasts extremely heavy rainfall, accompanied by strong winds gusting up to 90-110 kmph, which could lead to widespread disruption, including property damage, power outages, and flash floods.

In response to the escalating threat, the Maharashtra government has initiated a series of proactive measures.

Emergency control rooms have been activated around the clock, and disaster response teams, including units from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), have been strategically deployed across the potentially affected districts. Fishing activities have been strictly prohibited along the Maharashtra and Goa coasts, with fishermen advised to return to shore immediately and secure their vessels.

Ports have been instructed to take necessary precautions, and maritime traffic is being closely monitored. Local authorities are also working to identify and prepare temporary shelters for displaced residents, ensuring they are stocked with essential supplies.

Citizens are urged to heed official advisories, avoid venturing into coastal areas, and stay indoors during the peak impact period.
