Ludhiana Police Deal Major Blow to Drug Trade: 3kg Heroin, Firearm Seized, Four Arrested

Ludhiana, it seems, has just witnessed a rather significant moment in its ongoing battle against drug trafficking. In a move that’s certainly sending ripples through the local underworld, the city’s police force managed to pull off a substantial drug bust, apprehending four individuals and confiscating a staggering three kilograms of heroin. And as if that weren’t enough, they also seized a firearm and a good stash of ammunition.

The whole operation unfolded late on Tuesday night, culminating in arrests right there in the Model Town Extension area. It wasn't a random stop, mind you. According to Commissioner of Police (CP) Kuldeep Singh Chahal, this was the result of some pretty precise intelligence work. Imagine the scene: a dedicated team, acting on a tip-off, meticulously laid a trap. They were waiting, watching, for a specific Maruti Ciaz car, knowing full well what it was likely carrying.

When the moment came, they moved. The vehicle was intercepted, and upon inspection, officers discovered not only the hefty consignment of heroin but also a .32 bore pistol complete with ten live cartridges. Ultimately, four individuals found themselves in police custody, facing serious charges related to drug dealing and illegal firearms possession.

What's truly concerning, however, is that one of the suspects, identified as Satnam Singh, isn’t new to this kind of trouble. He already has a case registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. It really does underscore the persistent challenge law enforcement faces with repeat offenders in the drug trade.

This isn't just about the immediate arrests, though; the focus now shifts to the bigger picture. Investigators are now deep into the process of tracing both the "backward and forward linkages" of this particular drug supply chain. That means trying to figure out where these drugs came from and, just as importantly, where they were headed. The aim, of course, is to dismantle these networks from top to bottom. For now, an FIR has been officially lodged at the Model Town police station, encompassing both the NDPS Act and the Arms Act. It's a clear message, really: Ludhiana isn't going to stand idly by while drug traffickers try to operate within its borders.
