Ludhiana Community Rises: Brave Woman and Public Overpower Snatcher on Gill Road

In a heartening display of courage and community solidarity, a snatching attempt on Ludhiana’s bustling Gill Road was dramatically foiled, thanks to the swift actions of a young woman and the unwavering support of local residents and a vigilant security guard. The harrowing ordeal unfolded for Divya, a 22-year-old employee of a private company, as she made her way home from work around 9:30 PM.

The serene evening commute was shattered when two bike-borne assailants suddenly appeared, their intentions sinister. In a flash, they snatched her mobile phone, leaving her momentarily stunned but not defeated.

Instead of succumbing to shock, Divya's resolve kicked in immediately. With adrenaline coursing through her veins, she let out a piercing alarm and, without a second thought, gave chase to the fleeing robbers.

Her courageous pursuit quickly caught the attention of passersby and local residents, who, without hesitation, sprang into action.

Leading the charge among the Good Samaritans was Dharminder, a private security guard, whose quick thinking and intervention proved crucial. Together, Divya, Dharminder, and other residents pursued the culprits with fierce determination.

The chase culminated in the successful apprehension of one of the robbers, later identified as Avtar Singh, alias Sunny, 25, a resident of Jamalpur, Mundian Kalan.

The immediate recovery of Divya’s mobile phone brought a sense of relief and triumph to the scene. While Avtar Singh was taken into custody by the local police, the second assailant managed to evade capture, prompting an ongoing manhunt by law enforcement officials.

During interrogation, Avtar Singh confessed to his involvement in several other snatching incidents, shedding light on a wider pattern of criminal activity.

Following the incident, an FIR was promptly registered against the accused under Sections 379-B (snatching and use of force) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

The police lauded Divya for her exceptional bravery and commended the public for their invaluable assistance, highlighting the critical role community participation plays in crime prevention and resolution.
