Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha vows swift justice after terror shooting in Anantnag

On a bright afternoon in Anantnag, around 12.30 p.m., the tranquility of Lal Chowk was shattered when a terrorist opened fire on a police‑carrying out security duties for the Amarnath Yatra. The bullet struck Head Constable Ashiq Hussain (also mentioned as Ashiq Hussain Qureshi), who later succumbed to his injuries.

The shocking incident prompted an immediate response from the top brass. Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, took to X – the platform formerly known as Twitter – to condemn what he called a “cowardly, heinous act.” In his post, he promised that the attack “will not go unpunished” and assured the public that the police and security forces are already on the hunt for the perpetrator.

According to the statement, LG Sinha had a direct conversation with Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat. The DGP, who later visited the site for a first‑hand assessment, confirmed that a massive operation had been launched to track down the terrorist.
