KTR and BRS Legislators Turn Up at the Governor’s Door After Assembly Suspension

On Wednesday, the atmosphere at Lok Bhawan was tense but unmistakably political. K.T. Rama Rao, the working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), arrived with a convoy of more than twenty MLAs and several MLCs. They had just been barred from the Telangana Assembly for the rest of the monsoon session – a punishment meted out after they disrupted proceedings and shouted slogans.

Their destination? Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla’s office. The group sought an audience, perhaps hoping to explain their side or to negotiate a way back into the House. Their meeting, however, quickly became a flashpoint for opponents across the aisle.

BJP legislator Venkata Ramana Reddy wasted no time condemning the suspension, calling the entire episode “unfair” and urging that no party – whether ruling or opposition – be treated with such harshness. He also decried what he described as an “assault on a woman” that had taken place a few days earlier, insisting that the incident was unrelated to the present disciplinary action.

On the other side of the spectrum, Congress MP Mallu Ravi launched a blistering attack on BRS leader K.T. Rao (also known as KTR). Ravi accused him of making a derogatory remark about Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and warned that he would lodge a formal complaint. According to Ravi, the BRS was trying to paint Telangana as a law‑and‑order nightmare, allegedly hoping to invite President’s rule – a claim he dismissed as “pure fantasy.”

The suspension itself stemmed from an adjournment motion raised by KTR. He wanted the Assembly to immediately discuss a spate of alleged threats against Leader of the Opposition K. Chandrashekar Rao and a perceived deterioration in the state’s law‑and‑order situation. The speaker, Gaddam Prasad Kumar, deemed the protest disruptive and acted accordingly.

Among the suspended were familiar names: deputy leader in the House T. Harish Rao, and legislators such as Anil Jadhav, G Jagdish Reddy, Kaushik Reddy, Madhavaram Krishna Rao, Kova Lakshmi, Manik Rao, Chinta Prabhakar, Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, Prashanth Reddy, Marri Rajshekhar Reddy, Palla Rajeshwari Reddy, P Sabita Indira Reddy, Kalvakuntla Sanjay, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, D Sudheer Reddy, Vakiti Sunitha Laxma Reddy, Kaleru Venkatesh, Vijeyudu and K.P. Vivekananda.

As the meeting with the governor concluded, the political dust settled only to rise again. Both the BJP and Congress vowed to keep a close watch on the BRS’s moves, while the BRS leaders, visibly frustrated, hinted that they would continue to press for a discussion on the adjournment motion. The episode underscores how quickly Telangana’s legislative drama can turn into a broader contest of narratives and power.
