Konda Surekha Ousted from Telangana Cabinet After Party’s High Command Gives the Green Light

On Thursday, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced that Minister Konda Surekha would no longer be part of his cabinet. It wasn’t a sudden whim – the decision had already been cleared by the Congress high command, according to senior party MP Mallu Ravi.

Ravi, speaking to ANI, said the party’s central leadership had examined a pending internal disciplinary case that, in their view, was beginning to hurt both the Congress Party and the state government. “After hearing all concerns, the high command gave us the go‑ahead to drop her,” he explained, adding that her recent comments were becoming a political liability.

The disciplinary saga isn’t limited to Surekha alone. The Telangana Planning Board’s Vice‑Chairman, G. Chinna Reddy, also faced a similar reprimand after making derogatory remarks about the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president. Both complaints landed on the desks of Mallu Ravi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.

Ravi, who chairs the party’s disciplinary committee, said he had compiled a detailed report on the two cases – Chinna Reddy’s remarks and Surekha’s controversy – and recommended “strict action” to prevent further damage to the party’s image.

The trigger for Surekha’s ouster appears to be comments made by her daughter, Konda Sushmitha, who publicly attacked CM Revanth Reddy and Parkal MLA Revuri Prakash Reddy during a local event. The outburst sparked a flurry of criticism within the party ranks and led the TPCC disciplinary committee to issue a show‑cause notice to Surekha.

When questioned, Surekha insisted she bore no responsibility for her daughter’s statements. “I am not at all at fault,” she told reporters, noting that she had never levied any allegations against the chief minister or the party herself. “My daughter expressed her frustration on her own,” she added, sounding defensive yet resolute.

The dispute is centered around the Parkal Assembly constituency, where Revanth Reddy recently rallied support for the sitting MLA Revuri Prakash Reddy, urging voters to back him again. The endorsement, combined with the daughter’s remarks, seemed to seal Surekha’s fate.

While the cabinet reshuffle was brief – a three‑minute slot in a bustling press conference – it underscored the delicate balance the Congress must maintain between state politics and internal discipline. As the party grapples with these internal rifts, observers will be watching closely to see how the next round of political maneuvering unfolds in Telangana.
