Kolkata Gears Up for Metro Milestone Amidst Political Speculation

Kolkata is on the cusp of a significant infrastructure leap as Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepares to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for several key Metro Railway projects on August 22. However, the anticipated event is already shrouded in political intrigue, with strong indications that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will once again skip sharing the stage with the Prime Minister, continuing a noticeable pattern of avoiding joint appearances.

The upcoming ceremony promises to boost Kolkata's urban connectivity significantly. Among the highlights are the inauguration of the much-awaited Taratala-Majerhat stretch of the Joka-Esplanade (Purple Line), extending metro services further into the city's southern reaches. Additionally, the Kavi Subhash-Ruby section of the New Garia-Airport (Orange Line) is set to open its doors, promising smoother commutes for thousands. The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the crucial extension of the New Garia-Airport metro line up to Biman Bandar, envisioning a direct link to the airport in the future.

The grand inauguration is slated to take place at the iconic Esplanade Metro Station, a central hub that will soon witness enhanced connectivity.
