Kerala Mourns Loss of Dedicated Deputy Prison Officer; CM Lauds Noble Organ Donation

Kerala is in mourning following the untimely demise of K. S. Sivanandan, a highly respected Deputy Prison Officer, who passed away after bravely battling a sudden illness contracted while on duty at the revered Sabarimala Ayyappan Temple. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan led the state in expressing profound sorrow, while also commending the extraordinary courage and compassion of Sivanandan’s family for their decision to donate his organs, turning a moment of profound grief into a beacon of hope for others.

Sivanandan, a dedicated officer aged 52 and a native of Kainakary in Alappuzha, was serving on deputation for Sabarimala duty from Poojappura Central Jail when he suffered a severe brain hemorrhage.

He was immediately rushed to Kottayam Medical College and later transferred to a private hospital in Kochi for advanced medical care. Despite the relentless efforts of medical professionals, his condition tragically deteriorated, and he was declared brain-dead.

In a selfless act that truly embodies the spirit of giving, Sivanandan's family, in their darkest hour, chose to honor his memory by donating his organs.

His liver, both kidneys, and corneas were retrieved, destined to save and improve the lives of multiple individuals awaiting transplants. This noble gesture has resonated deeply across the state, serving as a powerful testament to humanity's capacity for altruism even amidst immense personal loss.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, in his heartfelt condolence message, lauded Sivanandan not only for his dedicated service to the prison department but also for his exemplary character.

“Sivanandan was an officer who gained the love and respect of all due to his sincerity and impeccable conduct. It is immensely painful that his life was cut short so suddenly while he was engaged in public service during Sabarimala duty,” the Chief Minister stated. He further emphasized the profound significance of the family’s decision: “The decision of his family to donate his organs, giving new life to others, is truly commendable.

This act of great humanity is an inspiration to society.”

Sivanandan’s passing leaves a void in the Kerala Prison Department and in the hearts of those who knew him. His legacy will be remembered not just for his unwavering commitment to his duties but also for the ultimate act of generosity his family facilitated, ensuring that even in death, he continues to contribute to the well-being of society.
