Karnataka's Hassan District Grapples with Devastating Floods After Relentless Rains

Karnataka's Hassan district is reeling from the aftermath of unprecedented heavy rainfall, which has unleashed devastating flash floods across the Arsikere and Channarayapatna taluks. Since Tuesday night, relentless downpours have transformed vibrant communities into scenes of submerged homes, deluged fields, and disrupted daily life, prompting a massive coordinated rescue and relief effort.

The impact has been particularly severe in Arsikere, where more than a hundred homes in areas like Kote and Gandhinagar have been swallowed by the rising waters.

Residents woke up to find their ground floors inundated, their belongings floating, and their sense of security shattered. The rapid escalation of the floodwaters left many stranded, necessitating urgent intervention from state and national disaster response forces.

Heroic efforts by personnel from both the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been crucial in mitigating the crisis.

Working tirelessly alongside the District Administration, Police, and Fire and Emergency Services, these teams have successfully rescued numerous individuals trapped in their waterlogged homes, guiding them to safer ground. The town itself experienced significant waterlogging, and the revered Sri Eswara temple found itself partially submerged, a poignant symbol of the widespread disruption. Beyond urban centers, the agricultural heartland has suffered immense losses. Vast stretches of maize, potato, and onion fields, crucial for the livelihoods of countless farmers, now lie completely submerged, threatening a significant blow to the local economy.

Transportation networks have been severely impacted, with key arteries like the Arsikere-Channarayapatna State Highway 7 becoming impassable due to water overflowing onto bridges and roads.

This has not only isolated communities but also complicated rescue and relief operations, making it challenging to transport essential supplies and aid to those most in need. Reports of cattle loss further compound the despair felt by affected families.

In response to the escalating crisis, senior officials, including the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Superintendent of Police (SP) of Hassan, swiftly visited the affected regions to assess the damage firsthand and oversee ongoing relief efforts.
