Karnataka Rallies for Direct Haj Flights from Mangaluru: Easing the Sacred Journey

Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has made an earnest appeal to Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, advocating for the crucial reinstatement of direct Haj flights from Mangaluru International Airport. In a detailed letter, Minister Gundu Rao highlighted the historical importance of Mangaluru International Airport as a key embarkation point for Haj pilgrims.

For years, it served as a convenient hub not only for residents of Karnataka's coastal districts but also for many from neighboring Kerala. The withdrawal of this direct service has unfortunately created considerable hardship for pilgrims.

Currently, prospective Haj pilgrims from these regions are forced to undertake an arduous journey to Bengaluru, the state capital, merely to board their flights.

This diversion is far from a minor inconvenience. It translates into significant additional travel costs, not just for the pilgrims themselves but also for their accompanying family members. Furthermore, the logistical challenge of transporting luggage over long distances, coupled with ensuring the comfort and care of elderly pilgrims, adds immense stress to what should be a spiritually uplifting experience.

The minister's letter passionately articulated the distress caused by the current arrangement.

He emphasized that the pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina is a deeply personal and sacred journey for Muslims, and any impediment to this spiritual endeavor causes genuine hardship. Restoring direct flights from Mangaluru would alleviate these burdens, allowing pilgrims to embark on their holy journey with greater ease and peace of mind.
