Teams fanned out, meticulously combing through properties associated with Channagiri and his relatives, looking for any signs of unexplained affluence.

We're talking about a substantial sum of Rs 15 lakh in cold, hard cash, enough to raise eyebrows immediately. Then there was the precious metal: a whopping 1.2 kilograms of gold and 22 kilograms of silver, often considered a classic way to stash undeclared wealth. But the real estate portfolio is where things truly become astounding. Imagine owning fifteen residential sites or plots, alongside six modern apartments. And if that wasn't enough, three commercial buildings and ten acres of agricultural land further bolster the suspicion of vast, disproportionate wealth.

The trappings of luxury weren't overlooked either. A fleet of vehicles, including a stylish Hyundai Creta, a practical Maruti Ertiga, and even a rugged Royal Enfield motorcycle, were among the seized items. Plus, countless valuable household articles, suggesting a lifestyle far beyond what an ACF's legitimate salary would permit. Interestingly, even assets held by his wife came under scrutiny, including a house in Srirampura and significant agricultural land in Chikkamagaluru, which, despite being purchased for Rs 30 lakh, was valued at a staggering Rs 1.5 crore. The Lokayukta didn't mince words, declaring the total value of these assets to be a staggering Rs 26.55 crore – a mind-boggling 262% higher than Channagiri’s known sources of income.
