Kangana Ranaut Stands With Trisha, Calls Out Gendered Attacks in Tamil Nadu

Speaking at a development‑monitoring meeting in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh, Kangana Ranaut didn’t just talk about roads and schools – she pivoted to a topic that’s been buzzing across Indian media: the way women in the public eye are repeatedly put under a microscope.

“You’ve seen what happened in Tamil Nadu,” she said, referring to the recent uproar surrounding actress Trisha. “When a respected artist’s personal life becomes a headline, it’s almost always the woman who bears the brunt of the insults.”

Ranaut’s remarks came on the heels of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Vijay’s warning that defamatory comments about women would attract legal action. The CM had earlier invoked the memory of the late J. Jayalalithaa – a role Kangana herself portrayed in the 2021 biopic Thalaivii – to underline how humiliating such attacks can be.

Adding another layer, Ranaut highlighted alleged veiled comments made by opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin during a Cauvery protest. While Stalin denies naming Trisha, the actress’s supporters argue the insinuation was clear enough to fuel the fire.

For Ranaut, the episode isn’t an isolated Indian problem. “Globally, successful women—whether they’re actors, politicians or CEOs—face the same kind of character assassination,” she asserted, pausing briefly as if recalling countless headlines. “When will it end? When will society start looking at women with genuine respect?”
