Kangana Ranaut Slams Mandi Officials Over Idle MPLADS Funds

In a heated exchange that’s now buzzing across social media, BJP MP and film‑star Kangana Ranaut confronted officials of Mandi district over what she called a “laughable” misuse of the MPLADS scheme.

The confrontation took place during the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, where Ranaut pressed for answers on why a large chunk of the ₹11 crore allotted to her constituency remained untouched after nearly two years.

“Don’t give me these useless jumlas (fake promises). I’m hearing them at every DISHA meeting,” the 40‑year‑old MP said, her tone alternating between sarcastic and stern. She noted that, while the whole region had spent less than ₹1 crore, Mandi itself had only managed to use about ₹50‑60 lakh out of an estimated ₹5.5 crore.

Ranaut didn’t stop at numbers. She recounted past inquiries where officials assured her that “90 % of our money is on the ground,” only for external surveys to reveal a starkly different reality. “I don’t need your assurances anymore – get the bloody job done now,” she snapped, emphasizing that the delays were no longer a matter of paperwork but of people’s lives.

She went on to question what she would have to tell the national media if she said, “our officials are just collecting salaries while the mountain people wait for roads, schools and hospitals.” The MP accused some officials of “laughing and cursing” her in their offices while villagers posted reels about the unfinished projects on social media.
