Justice Served: Brampton Man Handed Nine-Year Sentence for Terrifying Kidnappings of Two Women

Justice, in some measure, has finally been delivered for the two women who endured utterly terrifying kidnappings at the hands of Diavion Henningham. The 28-year-old Brampton resident recently received a nine-year prison sentence, a grim conclusion to a series of disturbing events that unfolded back in May 2021, leaving a lasting impact on his victims.

Superior Court Justice James Stribopoulos presided over the case, delivering the sentence after Henningham, you see, had previously entered a guilty plea to two counts of kidnapping. It’s a somber end to a legal journey that began with those harrowing incidents, one in Mississauga and another just days later in North York, both etched into the memories of those involved.

The first incident, a truly chilling ordeal, occurred on May 21, 2021. According to the court’s findings, Henningham encountered a woman near Hurontario Street and Eglinton Avenue in Mississauga, not far from the bustling Square One shopping centre. What started, perhaps, as an ordinary evening quickly escalated into a nightmare. He forcibly took her, confining her within his vehicle for a terrifying period. Thankfully, and almost miraculously, she managed to escape his clutches, though shaken to her core, when he eventually parked the car near a plaza.

But the horror, regrettably, didn't end there. Just two days later, on May 23, Henningham struck again, this time in North York. The second victim was accosted near Finch Avenue West and Pearldale Avenue. Much like the first, she was forced into his vehicle. The good news, if there can be any in such a situation, is that she too found a way out, escaping to safety. It’s hard to imagine the sheer terror these women must have felt, trapped and vulnerable.

The police acted swiftly, thankfully. Henningham was initially apprehended on May 22, the day after the first kidnapping, and then re-arrested on May 24 following the second incident. The investigation, no doubt, was meticulous, piecing together the events that led to his eventual charges. He finally pleaded guilty to the two kidnapping charges on September 26, 2025, bringing a sense of finality to the legal proceedings.

While a sentence can never fully erase the trauma experienced by victims, this nine-year prison term, handed down by Justice Stribopoulos, does represent a significant step towards accountability. It sends a clear message that such heinous acts will be met with severe consequences, and hopefully, it provides some measure of peace and closure for the courageous women who endured these terrifying experiences.
